It is not uncommon for designers to unleash their nipples on the runway . (See: Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2017 collection.) We saw many models strutting their stuff in sheer clothes and even bare breasts. But New York Fashion Week’s latest collection went a step further, with designers incorporating creative pies and other barely-there nipple covers into their designs.
At Puppets and Puppets’ Fall 2023 show, several nipples were encased in egg yolk and resin roses, while others were adorned with peach emojis on Melke . For Area’s Spring 2023 debut, cupcakes served as a backdrop for a banana-shaped gold corset and navy jeans. bronx and Banco went for a dazzling, luxurious experience. Far from minimalist, these stylistic approaches offered a way to not only adorn, but also celebrate breasts.

Bare nipples on the runway may not make anyone bat an eyelid, but these looks may feel unrealistic or out of reach when they hit the market. Between this and the trouser-less looks popular on the New York runways, we expect the fashion world to really push the boundaries of what is acceptable to consumers next year.
