Style usually depends on personal taste, but there are some basic points to remember when buying pearls – especially if you’ve never bought them before.
“Choose natural or cultured pearls,” advises Junsura. “Worn often and cared for properly, these pearls can look as beautiful decades from now as they did when they first left the store!”
In fact, my grandmother took such good care of her jewelry that they look as fine today as they did in the photos when she first bought them.
When you think of classic, vintage accessories, pearl jewelry is probably one of the first styles that come to mind. After all, icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe have immortalized pearls on and off the screen, and the style has been a favorite of celebrities and regular folks alike. In fact, the resurgence of pearls is particularly strong as one of the jewelry trends for spring 2023 – which is very welcome to pearl aficionados like myself.
“For me, pearls are classic,” agrees Omer Herzog, founder of jewelry brand Omè. “They are elegant, graceful and very feminine. There are also variations in size and shape, including modern jewelry, which opens up endless design possibilities. Years ago we saw Princess Diana wearing pearls, now we see Kate Middleton wearing them – you never get tired of women wearing pearls because it’s so chic and sophisticated.”
Jin Junsura, founder of Bangkok-based luxury jewelry brand Matara, agrees that pearls, like diamonds, will never go out of style. “Pearls have been loved for a long time,” she says. “They are not only timeless and traditional, but also unique and vibrant. Some of the most precious stones have the power to span generations and remain coveted for decades, and pearls are perfect for this field of clothing.”
