Cara Delevingne haircut proves slicked-back buns are here to stay

by

If you’ve been following beauty trends for most of the last year, you’re well aware that the slicked-back bun is on trend. It helped give birth to the “clean girl aesthetic” on TikTok, has become the default hairstyle for wearing hair wrap in public, and according to Cara Delevingne, is equally chic on a red (no, champagne) carpet.

For the model’s first-ever Oscars on Sunday, March 12 (!!!) ), she teamed up with celebrity hairstylist and SexyHair ambassador Danielle Priano. “We wanted to deliver real movie star energy, so we chose to showcase Carla’s amazing features by making the classic side part into a bun,” Priano tells us exclusively. “The best thing about this hairstyle is that it’s perfect for any occasion. Running to the grocery store? Wear your hair back in a bun so it doesn’t get in the way of your face. Having a red carpet event? Put your hair up in a bun for an elegant and timeless look. We’re seeing slick buns everywhere now because they look so versatile.”

.
While we may have left the red carpet to walk to Delevigne, it’s very doable to recreate this sleek back style for your Sunday errands. Naturally, we got the whole breakdown straight from Priano. First things first: blow dry your hair and create a super smooth base. Of course, if you’re second-day hair, skip it. Then, create a side part and brush everything back into a ponytail.

But this is where things get interesting. Priano suggests splitting the ponytail into two parts and “twisting each part until the hair is tangled together.” Then twist it all into a bun, secure it with some bobby pins, and apply Big SexyHair Spray & Stay Intense hold styling hairspray (opens in a new tab). “Don’t be afraid of hairspray! Spraying your hair is the best way to keep it smooth and frizz-free all day long.”
