Say goodbye to the dark, moody palette of winter

by

TikTok may have invented some seasonal aesthetics, but long ago fashion created seasonal palettes. For example, the hues of fall reflect the changing leaves of the trees-think warm burgundy, mustard yellow, rust orange and bark brown. Spring colors, on the other hand, inspire the warmer months ahead, including soft sunny yellows, as well as pale pinks and blues.

Miranda Priestly isn’t wrong: spring flowers aren’t groundbreaking, nor are colors like pastels, mint greens and peaches. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean we don’t like wearing them. Fashion clichés are clichés for a reason – and spring colors (and other seasonal palettes) are no exception. They’re tried and true, authentic and worn again and again because they inspire us to escape the monotonous monotony of our winter closets and have fun with fashion again.

That said, if you’re looking for something to wear outside of the spring color codes, there are plenty of options to choose from. In advance, we asked stylists and other experts in the fashion field to tell us which colors they are most looking forward to wearing/dressing for their clients in spring 2023. Spoiler alert: It’s going to be a very blue season.

Robyn’s Egg Blue

“Once I hear the birdsong and get the first glimpse of tulips and crocuses starting to bloom, that’s my official signal to explode with spring color. My favorite color is Robin’s Egg Blue. I incorporate the color by wearing it as a knit sweater (especially since it’s still cold in the NYC suburbs), wearing it as a dress and adding beige boots. As the weather warms up, I’ll add this color to a pair of tassel earrings. I’ll also start wearing more florals that match the color of the pattern.”

Every unconventional shade of blue

“Unconventional blues have always been a favorite of mine and my clients when it comes to spring dressing. They are unique and striking shades, while remaining flattering and not too in your face. It’s a shade of blue that makes you stop, think hard, and then ask where you found it. It’s not royal, baby or sky – it’s a different take on all of those. It’s a mix of shades of another color.”

“My advice is to mix and match colors. Live in a monochromatic space and use different shades of blue – tops, bottoms and jackets, all different shades. Find and rock your favorite combination, and then, when you need to add another color, I personally like and recommend off-white and cream.
