I think it’s hard enough to be a mother, and hard enough to be a woman

American Idol judge Katy Perry was called up for comments she made during a young mother’s audition for the show.

Sara Beth Liebe did well on both Elton John’s “Benny and the Jets” and Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good,” but What really excited Perry was finding out that Liebe, 25, is a mother of three. According to Us Weekly, the “Smokey” singer faked passing out in front of fellow judge Luke Bryant in shock, prompting Liebe to say, “If Katie was lying on the table, I think I would have fainted. ” Perry replied, “Honey, you’re laying on the table too much.”

The comment apparently raised enough eyebrows that Liebe decided to respond in a TikTok video, repeatedly calling the comment a “joke” (e.g., in quotes) and describing Perry’s words as “not super friendly.

In the video, which closed to comments, Liebe said, “I mean, it’s embarrassing and it’s hurtful to show it on TV, you know, that’s it ……. I think it’s very cool to support and uplift other women who are women and I think it’s super lame to shame moms and I think it’s hard enough being a mom and it’s hard enough being a woman. I also want to take this opportunity to say that I see all the young moms and regular moms who have commented on all the videos and posts and all the content and I just want to say I see you, I hear you I’m grateful for you and you are worth it, keep loving your kids. No one should feel bad about that.”

Katy Perry, who has a daughter with Orlando Bloom, did not comment on the altercation.
